The lesson started inside about what they were going Horse Club arena boolcir~gs fiOr s8~ety To the Editor: In answer to the question raised, "Why does the Kerr Co. 4H Horse Club have the Indoor Arena booked the same night as the Outdoor Arena?" It is for safety rea- sons. We booked the Indoor Arena for our fiscal year Sept. 2004 to Aug. 31 2005. These dates were booked in Sept 2004 thru Facilities Use and Maintenance. No. 1. The kids have nowhere to warm there horses up before running them in competition and cooling them off after their ions. On the west side of the 4 H Arena, a barbed wire fence was put up within ZO feet of the return alley. On the south side of the 4-H Arena, the Fair Association has numerous buildings and things stacked against the fence. On the east side of the 4H Arena is parking for the trucks and trailers, which take up a lot of space. On the north side of the 4-H Arena is the Extension Office. So therefore our kids need a safe place to exercise and warm up their horses. That only leaves the Indoor Arena. These are our rodeo dates booked for the Indoor and Outdoor Arenas, April 22 through July 22, 2005: Apri122 -Bumped from ....; ..~.. ,...r..~~~.. objer~i~ a<.: °l~~ ::re:axe are i:.tcc•wst in gardc;Zi?tg with Yc'~~g P~- ple tl~ougb positi~ a cross- generation relatioryships based on knowledge,. inter- ^r~,~ ~as~an.s, a s.~aac p c,.o~ 1 ~:~~~~t c~crv~~~ the ~*at~;ler~ tc~~ ~.~r,cytect p6aunts from our s~;m. )~~caw covt.~rs als+~ air a~°ail- able where it gets vt,~ry cold. Letters to tine Editor the Indoor Arena; May 6 - Bumped from the Indoor Arena; May 20, June 3, June 7, July 8, July 22. On the dates of June through July the barn is so hot we pray it doesn't rain, we then use the barn as a backup for rainouts. You can see we have the Indoor Barn booked seven times during our playdays; we have been bumped two out of the seven scheduled events. The Horse Club wiiI be using the Indoor Barn for only the remaining five scheduled events. Anyone who has any dealings with children and livestock, you hope through common sense, should take safety as a first measure. That is our way, to teach our children in the 4-H Horse Club to have fun and be safe! The 4-H Horse Club is looking into utilizing the south side of the 4-H Arena to maybe have some sand put down in that area for the kids to warm up their horses and that way the 4H Horse Club wouldn't be booking the Indoor Arena except for a few clinics and their Annual Rodeo Fundraiser in March every year: If that doesn't work out, that will leave the 4-H Horse Chit once again sur- rounded on all four sides and no where for our kiddos to safely warm their horses up. So once again I will be trying to book some in the Indoor Arena for the follow- mg year. There are dates still avail- able for the 2005 year. If interested, you need to call Facilities Use and Maintenance in care of Glenn Holekarnp at 896- 9016 to get scheduled. Donna Hyatt, 4-H adult leader and co- manager, Kerr County d-H Horse CIu6 Property dOrla~e~d t~or 4H, FFA youtl~- To the Editor: The property on Highway 27 donated to the county for 4H and FFA youth certainly has become a hot topic in recent Corrunissioners Court meetings. The newspaper accounts remind me of the Haffields and McCoys feuds. The rodeo contractor, steer roping contractor and the Commissioners Court has forgotten local ranching families to promote agricul- ture through 4-H and FFA youth donated the property. The land was not donated to make the rodeo or steer roping contractor money nor was it donated for the coun- ty to make money. If the contractors want to donate all their profits to the 4-H and FFA youth pr+a- grarns, and if the commis- sioners want to give all the profits made off of their big idea for the property to our local 4-H and FFA prn- grams, it would be in the spirit of the ranchers' gift. I wonder what the descen- dants of the ranching fami- lies think of what has become of the land their families donated to promote agriculture.
