Dear Friends, This past month I've been working to organize The National Day of Prayer Courthouse ceremony to be held on Thursday, May 5, 2005, from 6-7 PM at the Kerr County Courthouse. Partners in Ministry was asked to assume this responsibility from Fern Lancaster and because it fits so well with one of our strategic area, "Mobilizing Prayer Efforts across the Hill Country," we were pleased to have the opportunity. Although this is Kerr County's 8th National Day of Prayer Celebration, the history of this special day goes back to the first call to prayer in 1775 when the Continental Congress requested the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation. This call to prayer has continued through America's history, including President Lincoln's proclamation of a day of "humiliation, fasting, and prayer" in 1863. In 1952, a joint resolution by Congress, signed by President Truman, declared an annual, national day of prayer. In 1988, the law was amended by President Reagan, which permanently set the day as the first Thursday of every May. The President signs a proclamation each year, encouraging all Americans to pray for our country on this day. On Thursday evening, May 5th, at 6:00 we hope you'll join your school leaders, pastors, and neighbors at the Courthouse to pray for our schools, families and churches in the county. As we gather together, we will be encouraged and strengthened to continue to pray daily for our nation as the Apostle Paul instructs us in 1 Timothy 2:1-2, "I urge, then first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quit lives in all godliness and holiness." Meet you in prayer at the Courthouse! Blessings, Barbara McCormick PROCLAMATION NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER KERR COUNTY, TEXAS "Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and ftnd grace to help in time of need.
