Please let me know approximately what time you would like us to be at the courthouse Monday. Kerr County 150 Kerr County will mark its sesquicentennial year in 2006. If you consider the conditions in Kerr County in 1856, and the hazdships her citizens faced, we have plenty to celebrate. The Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce may have an interest in organizing and producing a fitting and appropriate county-wide celebration to note this important milestone. While the actual date Kerr County was created was January 26, 1856, we think a celebration the first weekend in April might be more appropriate because the weather will more likely be better. The county's centennial celebration in 1956 was celebrated in April also. Steps taken thusfar by members of the Chamber: • Reseazched some of the events of the centennial celebration here in 1956. • Contacted all of the state's county historical chairs and Main Street program offices about their 150`" celebrations. • Visited with officials in a neighboring county to hear some of the events they produced to celebrate their 150`" birthday there. Conducted several brainstorming sessions about the event. • Visited with several people who were involved in the centennial celebration here. • Researched dates in 2006 to find best weekend for the event. • Discussed various ways to fund the event. However, the Chamber may be reluctant to spend both the effort and money required to produce a celebration event if the court is planning to produce an event marking the 150' birthday of Kerr County.
