Graduated from grammer school & Highland Park High School. Member of the National Honor Society, & graduated 10th in a class of 275. Was on the track & football teams. Active in Boy Scouts 1934-1941. Reached Order of the Arrow & Eagle Scout. Also was a Sea Scout & the Rescue Crew. Attended the U. of North Carolina 1940-1942 in Business Administration. Enlisted as an Aviation Cadet in April of 1942. Was on Reserve Status until March 1, 1943. Stationed in San Antonio, Houston, & Hondo, where I graduated as a navigator on Nov.16, 1943. Assigned to a B-24 in the 464th Bomb Group, 776th Squadron. We flew our plane overseas, & became active in combat--flying 47 missions before being shot down on August 24, 1944. Was a P.O.W. at Stalag Luft III in Sagan, Germany until January 27, 1945, when we were marched to Moosburg, Stalag VIIA. We were liberated on April 29, 1945 by American forces. Returned to the U.S. and home again to Highland Park. My terminal leave ended December 15, 1945. Married Nina D'Ancona, for Marcus Ruben, Inc. 1969 when the business Webber Uniforms as sal company was taken over Co., but I remained as reared 3 sons, & worked in Chicago (custom uniform business) until was sold. Joined Appel-Brooks- =s manager-western division. The in 1970 by SuperioxiSurgical Mfg. sales manager. Retired on May 1,1984. Moved to Kerrville, Tx. permanently on Sept. 1, 1986. Since then, I have volunteered at the Kerrville V.A. to date, am a member of the Hi11 Country Veterans Advisory Council since its inception, member of Riverhill C.C., active in the Kerrville Area P.O.W. group, & been President of the Stalag Luft III Former Prisoners of War organization since its inception in 1981. Have run the reunions & conducted business of the large group. Am still holding the job as President. I would be happy to serve & attend meetings, & give reports to council in full of all meetings.
