Johnson addressing the Court regarding a request for a variance in the requirements for an on-site septic facility for a dwelling to be located at lot 24, Wood Trail, a subdivision titled `Wood Trails Ranch'. Governing regulation: TITLE 30, TEXAS ADMINISTRATIVE CODE~HAPTER 285 ON-SITE SEWAGE FACILITIES Page 39 285.33 ET Systems 2.33.b (2) (B) ET system sizing. The following formula shall be used to calculate the surface area of an ET system. A=1,6 Q/Ret Where: A= total top surface area of the excavations. Q=estimated daily water usage in gallons/day in %%285.91(3) of this title (relating to tables) Ret= net local evaporation rate in %%285.91(7) of this title. The Q referenced in the above regulation, for a single family dwelling <1500 sq. fl. is 180 gal/day. I ask the Commissioners for a variance based upon the following: 1. The dwelling will utilize a dry composting toilet. Net Q= zero. 2. The dwelling will also have a grey water system. Net Q= zero. 3. The only household appliance therefore connected to the sewer will be the kitchen sink. Since 99+% of my meals are eaten elsewhere, input from the sink will be absolutely minimum. Other factors: The dwelling is located on top of a hill, with rock the dominating surface. This condition requires an Evapotranspirative system, the sizing of which is referenced in the above quoted paragraph(s). Domestic water will be provided by a rainwater collection system. No automatic dish washer or gazbage disposal will be installed. In order to allow for possible future increases in Q (I might install a conventional toilet at some point for the convenience of overnight guests) we (the system design engineer and n have allowed 10 flushes per day @ 1.5 gaUflush plus 25 gal/day sink usage. This is a total Q of 40. The ET system has been designed with this Q as a factor. However, actual total Q will approach zero Thank you for your consideration. James R. Johnson
