See Agenda Request Rules Adopted by Commissioners' Court. #29969 Resolution WHEREAS the Texas Brush Control Progam was established in 1985 Yhrough Senate Bill 1083, Acts of the 69`" Legislature Regular Session to assist landowners in clearing mesquite, cedar (juniper) and other invasive species of brush; and WHEREAS Texas A & M University utilizing on-site technology to transmit data directly from the field. has proven that over half the rain that falls on a cedar tree is lost to evaporation; and WHEREAS briefings are currently being given to Legislative Financial Committee to request funding for the said Brush Control Program covering the Upper Guadalupe River Basin nn the Edwards Plateau including Kerr County; and WHEREAS counties in seven other river basins have cleared thousands of acres of cedar under this program. Ken County has never been funded nor has Kendall or Comal Counties; and WHEREAS phenomenal population gowth in said area of the Upper Guadalupe has placed extreme demands on the Trinity Aquifer and Canyon Reservoir; and WHEREAS clearing of lazge areas of cedar will result in thousands of acre-feet of water being made available for recharge of springs and streams feeding the Guadalupe and Canyon Reservoir as well as the Trinity Aquifer. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Commissioners Court of Kerr County, Texas recommends to the Texas Legislature that sufficient funds be provided to the Texas State Soil & Water Conservation Board for a Texas Brush Control Progam for that portion of the Guadalupe River Basin in Kerr.
