This year DPS is implementing a mandatory Automated System. They will furnish all of the equipment needed to set up the system and train our employees. There will be an additional fee or $2.25 for each inspection to fund the systems that must be paid at the time of inspection. To do this they have to have automated draft authority on a checking account (#14). We talked with the auditor and he said it would not be a problem, but the Court has to approve the automatic account. ~- At this time we ask the Cour[ to give the County Auditor permission to setup an automated draft to comply with the new state law. •~- Th auto withdrawal TEXAS DEPARTMENT t~F PUBLIC SAFETY •, 5805 N. STURNS COATMS90NFR Advisory Notice 'i'o All Vehicle Inspection Stations Providing Safety Inspections Only To improve inspection reporting and management processes, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is implementing the Texas Automated Vehicle Inspection System (TAMS). Deployment of TAMS is anticipated to begin during the winter of zoo6 and will be rolled out by geographic area. TAMS is a statewide automation program and as such participation of all inspection stations and inspectors is required. All non-emissions vehicle inspectior~ stations will be provided with TAMS equipment at no charge to the station. In order to implement this program statewide, an automation fee of $z.oo will be added to each non-emissions inspection certificate and $o.zs will be added to each emissions certificate. Inspection stations can pass this fee along to motorists at the time of inspection. Neither DPS nor inspection stations will retain any of the additional fee as it goes directly toward financing the program. Automation fees will begin when TAMS services become active in a station's geographic area. ~ ' ' Enclosed is a packet of information to help ybitr'station understand and participate in this program.
