Without help from folks like Hagi, Kerrville would not be the wonderful place in which we live. Thank you Hagi for making Kerrville your home and sharing yotrt gifrs. We are blessed. Meay Christmas. Sue Steele Vice president, The Ilietert Center Council :position a thankless job To the Editor: Dear Mr Eller, We really must do something to stem the hatred for city government here. Please moderate the tone to neighborhood level. I don't know whether Mr. Gross will ,rug agait},- it's apretty .. thankless job, aftei aB. Instead, can rye expresg.our appreciauon for the efforts of city staff and unpaid ary council members? Whether any of us likes a particular vote or not, they serve us in a difficult era in Kerrville. When will the tax freeze fight be over? You won. Whoopee. How much .satisfaction is now due you? Should Mr: Gross be publicly flogged for his consaence vote? By the way, are you sure you have standing in this argument? Isn't Greenwood Forest in Ingram not Kerrville? Dave Vinyard, Kerrville Disagreeing with Mr. Eller To the Editor: Tn response to Mr. Efler's letter, I have to strongly disagree with him on his view of Counclman Gross. Councilman Gross did his job and represented the people of not vote for the tax freeze. The people voted to give counties and municipalities in Texas the ability to enact the tax freeze. This is not an endorsement of a tax freeze, just giving. the people and governing bodies the power to act. Mr. Eller, it seems like you don't agree with many issues before the council,. maybe you should think about rrrmring to represent the people of Kerrville. But, you live outside the aty limits of Kerrville, so these issues don't directly affect you. Lisa Thompson, Kerrville Cost effective method the best 1b the Editor: I would like to encourage all customers of LCRA to write the Texas Public Utility Commission at PO Box 13326, Austin TX, 78711-3326, FAX {512) 436-7003, or online at w W w.puc. state. us/ocp " concerning PUC docket u32825, This is the number assigned to the Rim Rock/GOat Creek LCRA transmission line project. WE should all request PUC to advise LCRA to use the most cost-effective method for the installation and maintenance of the project in order to hold down the cost that will be passed on to all rate-payers. We should also encourage the Kerr County Commissioner's Court to take no action on the superficial request of a few people. The court has no authority in this maner. It is unconscionable to keep putting the court in a no- win situation. I'd like to point to the few trying to pressure the court with comments and newspaper ads that the court is elected to represent what is best for the majority, not pander to the desires of a few. Stop wasting the court's time and let them get on with cunning the county's business. Bennie M. Hyde Kerrville SILICON IMPLANT? Studying l If fingers should be pointed, Reaction to the Iraq Study Group report has ranged from hysterical to dejrressing. Right-wing newspaper; and commentators are tending to dismiss the report as a a surrender document, compiled by frightened , bureaucrats who do not ' understand war or the stakes in Iraq. The left-wing media is actually giddy,. using the repoR to bash the¢ least favorite guy: President Bush. Of course, both positions do not do Americans much good because they are based on emotion; not what's most beneficial to the country. Let me give you a few examples. New York'llmes columnist Thomas Friedman, who is often incisive in his analysis, actually said on the radio that the Iraqi insurgents have defeated the U.S. Army. That statement is completely absurd. It would be like saying the IRA defeated the British Armytrr Northern Ireland, or Haman has defeated the Israeli Army in Gaza. No military organization on the face of the earth can stop thugs from bombing and murdering civilians. The truth is the U.S. military has kept Iraq together and functioning for nearly four years. Presider Bush's responsibility in this are twofold -first to give the miG the best chance to succeed, an~ second to define the consequer of failure. The most important accomplishment of the IragSn Group is tharit has created a sf of urgency Surely, the new Iraq government now realizes that t presence of the United States a Britain is not guaranteed. The massive amount of corruption duplicity in Iraq must be dealt by the government, or it will perish. The poobahs in Baghda have been put on notice.
