W'H6KEAS T'he USDA Knipling-Bushland Livestock Insect Research Laboratory has oper- ated in Kerrville, Texas, since 1962; and for forty-five years has generated know- ledge and solutions for livestock pest management problems benefiting livestock producers in the United States and worldwide; and W'ITEREAS Current research programs at the Laboratory continue in response to high priority needs identified by the Cattle Fever Tick Eradication Program of the Veterinary Services of USDA-AAPHIS, the cattle industry, the U.S. Department of Defense and public health agencies concerned with tick-borne diseases of humans; and WHEREAS The important work of this research laboratory continues today in W W II-era Quonset-type buildings and other temporary buildings, inadequate for the Cype and magnitude of the research in progress; and W'Hf.RFAS The U. S. Animal Health Association Resolution No. 38, dated October 27, 2004, urges the Secretary of Agriculture to requesC funds to construct a replacement USDA Agricultural Research Service Laboratory in Kerr County, Texas, and confirmed in the completed 2006 Federal Feasibility Study; now therefore be it RESOI VFD That Kerr County Commissioners' Court respectfully requests the United States Congress to provide sufficient funding in the 2008 Budget to implement the design and engineering phase for a new USDA Agricultural Research Laboratory in Kerr County, Texas; and be it further RESOLVED That copies of this Resolution be forwarded to the Honorable Lamar Smith, Congressman for the 21"Congressional District, and the Honorable Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn, urging their support of this worthy project.
