Step 1: To get the estimated payroll for one volunteer law enforcement personnel at the base annual salary rate of $5200, divide the estimated payroll by 100. That number is then multiplied by the rate. For 2007 the rate for volunteer law enforcement is 5.32. This figure is the manual premium rate. ($5,200/100) x 5.32 = $276.64 Step 2: The manual premium rate is then multiplied through each of county's three modifiers: A. $276.64 multiplied by the 1.02 Experience Modifier = $282.17 B. $282.17 x .7 = $197.52 (multiplied by the 30% Member Discount) C. $197.52 x .9 = $177.77 (less 10% Property Discount) Therefore, the total amount of WC premium in 2007 for the addition of 1 law enforcement volunteer with an assumed annual salary base of $5200 for Kerr County would be $177.77. This rate of coverage would provide $78 per week for an injured volunteer. The county may choose to provide more than this for its volunteer law enforcement personnel; however, they may only do so in increments of $5200 up to an assumed annual salary of $38,844. Of course, this would mean that the additional premium would go up incrementally per volunteer as well. .r As we discussed on the phone last week, the only requirement for adding volunteer personnel is that either the commissioners' court will need to approve it in their minutes or the county judge will need to send a letter requesting the coverage. Either way, the request should include the assumed annual salary rate to be used and the number of volunteers to be covered. One final note, we do not prorate for the volunteers. The cost would be the same to add them in September as it would have been to add them to the policy in January of this year. Please let me know if you need anything else.
