See Agenda Request Rules Adopted by Commissioners' Court. - CITY OF KERRVILLE, TEXAS RESOLUTION N0. 123-2008 #31123 JOIN[' IZI:SOLli7'ION A JOINT RESOLUTION BY AND BETWEEN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KERRVILLE AND THE KERB COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT REGARDING THEIR SUPPORT OF AND APPRECIATION TO THE H.E. BUTT GROCERY COMPANY FOR ITS GIFT OF ONE MILLION DOLLARS FOR THE REDEVELOPMENT OF THE BUTT-HOLDSWORTH MEMORIAL LIBRARY WHEREAS, in 196?, Mr. and Mrs. Howard E. Butt (Mary Elizabeth Holdsworth) donated funding for the creation of the Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library (the "Library"); and WHEREAS, based in large part upon this charitable contribution, along with the efforts of the Friends of the Library and a grant from the federal and state government, the Library was then built in 1967; and WHEREAS, since that time, the 1_,ibrary has continued to serve the residents oi~ the City of Kerrville, Kerr County, and the surrounding areas at its location along the banks of the Guadalupe River; and WHEREAS, for the past several years, the City of Kerrville along with the Library Advisory Board, which is made up of members appointed by both the City of Kerrville and Kerr County, have undertaken studies to analyze the function of the Library and how to transform and renovate the Library to make it better suited to serve the public; and WHEREAS, the H.E. Butt Grocery Company (the "Company"), which was founded in Kerrville, and whose owners are related to Mr. and Mrs. Butt, became interested in this analysis and how the Company could involve itself in the transformation and renovation of the Library; and WHEREAS, the Company has announced that it intends to provide a gift in the amount of one million dollars, along with. other in-kind support, to launch the design and renovation effort, as well as start a fund raising campaign, tovvard addressing future needs of the [,ibrary; al~d WHEREAS, the Company's gift will continue the original vision and purpose for the Library, which includes public use and a means of providing lifelong learning opportunities for residents of the Kerrville area; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Kerrville and the Commissioners Court of Kerr County find it in the public interest to support the generous gift from the H.E. Butt Grocery Company and other efforts toward the renovation of the Library; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED SY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THF.
