See Agenda Request Rules Adopted by Commissioners' Court. / #31124 PROCLAMATION DECLARING THE SECOND TUESDAY IN JANUARY TO BE "VOLUNTEERS FOR DEMOCRACY DAY" WHEREAS several times each year a massive one-day work force of election volunteers must be recruited, trained, organized and mobilized; and WHEREAS America's poll workers number 2 million per federal election" nearly double the number of people who work for America's largest private employer; and WHEREAS poll workers are considered critical to the health of America"s democracy, working days that typically exceed 12 hours while receiving minimal compensation; and WHEREAS a well-staffed polling place with well-trained workers functions smoothly. allowing the maximum number of voters to cast ballots in a convenient fashion; and WHEREAS in 2007, the State legislature designated the second Tuesday in January as a day to recognize precinct chairs and election volunteers who make valuable contributions to the nation's democratic system, and called it "Volunteers for Democracy Day". NOW, THEREFORE IT BE RESOLVED that the Kerr County Commissioners Court declare the second Tuesday in January as "Volunteers for Democracy Day'", and recognized that poll workers are the backbone of our election system, providing an essential part of our free democratic process; and FURTHER" we extend our appreciation and admiration for the election workers of Kerr County and the vital services that they perform in conducting the County's elections.
