Beginning June 1, 1998, Russ began doing written payment agreements with the defendants at the time of judgment These figures reflect only money collected, and does not include credit for jail or SWAP. Source of information: The Software Group, Criminal Case Management Package SUMMARY Before the Collection Program: 97-98 Collected & retained in Kerr County $109,168.20 After the Collection Program: 98-99 Collected & retained in Kerr County $1f9,213.78 Amount of increase in collections $ 60,045.58 As the figures above reflect, you can see that collections have increased substantially since the beginning of the Collection Program. These figures come from two computer generated reports exactly one year apart, with the same time frame and the same cutoff period. After we started the Collection Program, the collection rate increased from 34% to 50%. These figures do not include any money collected on cases disposed before that time frame. What we have tried to do is show a before and after collections picture, using exactly the same time frames. In addition to the $60,000.00 increase in collections on 98/99 cases, Russ has also worked the files from previous years. He has collected over $12,000.00 on cases which date back to 1985. It is a job that cannot be handled properly either by our office or the County Clerk's office -- it requires the skills and knowledge of someone like Russ, and time to monitor each case until it is paid in full. Russ has also taken on the tasks of collecting for the District Courts, Attorney General cases (family law), and also bond forfeitures for the County Attorney's office. Through the Collection Program, our goal is to satisfy most assessed fees within 90 days of judgment. By this procedure, we hope to reduce our delinquent fees by a substantial amount, and will no longer continue to add to our "old and uncollectable" debts. Source of information: The Sofrware Group.
