May 5, 2008 The Honorable Pat Tinley Kerr County Judge 700 Main Street Kerrville, Texas 78028 Re: Predator Control Dear Judge Tinley: My name is John Wade and I am the County Commissioner of Precinct 2 in Sutton County. I am also an elected member of the Texas Sheep and Goat Predator Management Board that is based out of San Angelo. This board oversees the collection of $.30 per head on all sheep and goats sold in a 110 county area. A majority of the money collected is used for predator control. As you know, predators are on the increase in all areas of Texas. They are not only affecting livestock, but also wildlife and agriculture. The Texas Sheep and Goat Predator Management Board has tried for years to come up with a way to get hunters involved in predator control and as of our June board meeting, we feel we have finally succeeded. At that meeting, a motion was made and passed that we go through the Texas Parks and Wildlife and take out $2.00 on every hunting license sold in the State of Texas. This money would be used for predator control. Our initiative has already been endorsed by the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers' Association and the Texas Sheep and Goat Predator Management Board. If it passes through the State Legislature, it has the possibility of raising $5.4 million dollars for predator control in the State of Texas. Former State Legislator Bob Turner is lobbying for us on this effort. I am writing to you today to request your help in a very important matter. To date, Sutton County wrote, passed, and sent a resolution endorsing this item to the Texas Parks and Wildlife. We have had several other counties do the same and we were hoping you. would too. Attached is a copy of the resolution. Feel free to use it as a guide if you wish. If this resolution is passed within the Kerr County Commissioners' Court, then please forward it to the Texas Parks and Wildlife. Their address is: Texas Parks and Wildlife Department 4200 Smith School Road Austin, Texas 78744 If you need more information about this matter then please feel free to call me at (325) 387-2908. Thank you for your time.
