I was happy to be able to touch base with you before the holiday. This letter will re-cap our conversation regarding the potential zoning issues brought up by the Kerrville-Kerr County Joint Airport Board at their meeting on Monday, November 9, 2009. I let you know that the City would have an item on the agenda for the December 8th City Council meeting to discuss potential zoning issues and the potential need for an Airport Zoning Board as discussed at the Airport Board meeting. We anticipate Council taking possible action directing the City Attorney to research these issues. You advised me that you could put an item on the December 7th Commissioner's Court agenda but probably for discussion only - no action. We discussed our opinions about zoning at the airport and both concurred that some zoning is necessary for the protection of the airport but that we should probably look to the Airport Board for a recommendation how far that goes with final authority/approval by the City and the County as joint owners. We discussed the potential of an Airport Zoning Board. You stated that in your opinion it would be okay to allow the Airport Board to fill those slots as long as there was no state law against it. I commented that I wasn't clear about the state law requirements so I wasn't sure what my stance would be. We discussed a potential timeline for recommendations from the Airport Board but thought it should be deferred to the Airport Board as long as it didn't exceed 6 -12 months.
