underserved by institutions of higher education; and
WHF,REAS the continued economic viability of rural Texas and the success and ~~e[Fare of~ its re;ideilts
is highly dependent upon the provision ofhigher-education services; and
WHEREAS it is essential For the area's diverse student: population to have ready ac.ccss tt~} lu~~h~~e~
education opportunities; and
V1!IIERha1S the TTU hill Country Educational Network and the TTU Center at Junc~ti«n arc cziti~.~tl tt~
meeting the needs ofthis student population at an affordable cost. and
WHEREAS the educational network and the center are the first comprehensive efl~~--ts in Texas t~_~
provide services to a wide --ural area; and
WHEREAS this educational endeavor promotes collaboration, not competition, among coile~~es ~-nr.!
universities: and
WHEREAS local communities in the Hill Country continue to invest in this endeavor, witl- si~nifir,t.r-t
contributions by local governments and private donors; and
WHEREAS continuing State support of the TTU Hill Country Educational Network and the TICS
Center at JtmCtlon is crucial;
itiow, Therefore, Be it Resolved by the Ke--r County Commissioners' Court, that the Cotn-t:
(1) Fully supports the Texas Tech University request for appropriations for each of fiscal ve;:-rs 2010
and 2011. as submitted to the "I~exas Legislature, for the TTU Hill Country Educational Network
(Fredericksburg, I-tighland Lakes and Junction) and the TTU Center at Junction:
