Baldwin, seconded by Commissioner Oehler, the Court unanimously approved by a vote
of 4-0-0 to:
Approve setting a Public Hearing for May 24, 2010, at 9:30 am for proposed speed limit
and speed limit signs on Backacre Road, located in Precinct 1.

BACKACRE RD. IS OFF OF COKER RD. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A POSTED SPEED
LIMIT ON BACKACRE RD. PAM SMITH HAD REQUESTED THAT BACKACRE RD
NEEDED SOME SPEED LIMIT SIGNS. WE PLACED THREE TRAFFIC COUNTERS AT
THREE DIFFERNET LOCATIONS ON BACKACRE RD. FROM THURSDAY, MARCH
2S~ THROUGH MONDAY, MARCH 29~. ACCORDING TO THE TRAFFIC COUNTERS,
THE 85~ PERCENTILE SHOWS THAT THE SPEED SHOULD BE SET AT 40 MPH ON
BACKACRE RD., BUT WHEN WE DROVE BACKACRE RD. WE FELT THE SPEED
LIMIT SHOULD BE SET AT 35 MPH, 40 MPH WAS TOO HIGH.
AT THIS TIME WE ASK THE COURT TO SET A PUBLIC HEARING FOR MONDAY,
MAY 24, 2010 @ 9:30 AM REGARDING SETTING THE SPEED LIMIT AND SETTING
SPEED LIMIT SIGNS FOR BACKACRE RD., PCT. 1.

Mr. Baldwin,
We held a neighborhood watch meeting yesterday with Pam Hicks (deputy
sheriff) at our home at 235 Backacre Rd. I asked her who we need to speak
with about speed limit signs for our road and she said to contact our
county commissioner. This road is off of Coker Rd and we desperately need
some signs. Our road is very narrow, rough and curvy! We also have a
couple of homes with small children that will play on or near the road.
Some people out here are driving way to fast and its just a miracle that
no one has had a bad accident and killed.
I had 25 plus people at the meeting just to show you how many people we
have living out here now and that was not everyone. Please see what you
can do about some signs and that they will be enforced!
