KERRVILI.E CITIZEN POLICE ACA®EMY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION P.Or Box 290629 Kerrville, Texas 78029-0629 Our purpose is to present and promote a continuing positive image of all law enforcement, but specifically the Kerrville Police Department, and to support and assist the KPD by lessening the burdens of government fighting crime and delinquency. We strive to support the police department in achieving its goal of effective community policing in these ways: participating in appropriate police department activities; offering meetings and programs to continue the education of KCPA alumni; raising funds for equipment and activities not covered in the city budget but needed by the police department. Our members are graduates of Kerrville Citizen Police Academy who volunteer their time and effort to support the Kerrville Police Department. The KPCA is a program offered by the Kerrville Police Department to residents of the city and to people who work or do business in the city. Currently two classes of 24 people graduate each year. Graduates joining the alumni association continue their education at monthly meetings that feature such. topics as the local Crime StopperslTlPS/ Victims Rights programs, the local 911 system, TABC activities, sex offender programs, and drug interdiction. The alumni association works closely. with KPD to tailor its efforts to the police department's needs. • Our activities in the past have included helping with traffic and crowd control at~Christmas and Tivy homecoming parades, Fourth of July celebrations at Louise Hays Park, free flu shot event offered by the state, and child car seat inspections in the WalMart parking lot; doing office work and substituting at the front desk at the police station; participating with the police. department in National Night Qut, Broken Dreams, and at back-to-school events that offer free products and services to students; fingerprinting children at the Doyle Community Center; refinishing and painting lockers for the police station; sending care packages to KPD officers deployed overseas; shopping, wrapping, and loading presents and food into cars of recipients in the Blue Santa program; and assisting with classes and providing a meal to KC:PA students. We are now digitizing files at the police department to minimize the police. department's need for more office and storage space and the costs associated with that space. Our fund-raising efforts are just now starting. Purchase of equipment for the police departments and of uniforms for alumni members who work with the public are priorities. We are in-the process of changing our association's iRS status from 501(c)(4} to 501(c}(3} so that contributions can be tax-deductible.
