THIS POSITION IS CURRENTLY IN THE 2010 - 2011 BUDGET. ROAD AND BRIDGE IS IN NEED OF THIS POSITION AND WOULD LIKE TO FILL IT. Operates light equipment. Work requires contact with the public. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES • Hauls materials to and from job site. • Maintains vegetation on County right -of -ways or properties by mowing or cutting brush. • Performs road repairs and maintenance such as potholes, shoulders, edges, guardrails, picking up of trash or dead animals, etc. • Operates light equipment (mowing tractor, front -end loader, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, backhoe, street sweeper, dump truck, etc.) May do minor maintenance and repair on equipment (fueling, changing the oil, servicing tires, etc.) • Performs traffic control (placing and gathering cones, flagging traffic, etc) as well as repairing and erecting signs. • Assist during emergencies (floods, snowstorms, or accidents) to sand bridges and roads, puts up warning signs, and assist the public. Employee may perform other related duties as assigned and be willing to learn the methods, procedures, and materials used in roadway maintenance work and obtain the skills to use roadway maintenance tools and equipment. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS Must have experience in driving a truck and/or light equipment and have Class A- Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or be able to obtain a CDL within 30 days. Be able to follow verbal and written instructions and work effectively with other employees and to deal courteously with the public. High School education or GED preferred. WORKING CONDITIONS Must routinely perform physical labor, lift up to 100 pounds. Essential personnel expected to be on the job in emergency situations and work under variable weather conditions.
